Shanthy received her Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine (DAM) in Sri Lanka, where Ayurveda and alternative health systems are the primary platform of medicine. She spent the following 9 years there practicing as an Ayurvedic medical practitioner at Mother Theresa Medicare, during which her skills and passion for Ayurveda developed. In the following years, Shanthy moved to the US with her family and began to move toward a different career path. After completing her Associates Degree (AAS) in business Administration and Computer Information Systems, Shanthy spent 4 years working in business and computer management. During this time, she came to realize that her purpose was not in business but rather in wellness. She wanted to help Ayurveda and holistic health systems take root in Western New York. As a result, Shanthy set out to obtain proper certification to expand her knowledge of Ayurveda and alternative medicine systems. In doing so, she began incorporating the traditions of Massage and Bodywork with her knowledge of Ayurveda.
Shanthy continued on to become a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and Nationally Certified Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Practitioner (NCTMB). She uses this unique combination of disciplines to determine a holistic treatment for her clients. In congruence with Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle, herbal healing, nutrition, and preventative strategies. Shanthy has a special focus in women’s health and wellness therapies. Additionally, she specializes in Panchakarma therapy, chronic pain, pregnancy, and medical massages.
Shanthy is now a member of Bodywork Massage Professionals and the New York Institute of Massage Therapy Alumni Association allowing her to connect with various active practitioners in the field. Her current business, Harisa Ayurvedic Wellness Center, has been a growing and expanding since July of 2011. During which period her education and knowledge has continued to expand with both experience and the guidance of others. Shanthy is truly committed to helping Ayurveda and wellness grow and become more accessible for all.
